On September 17, 2025, Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed their fifth Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2026–2031. The agreement, signed by PAEC Chairman Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar and IAEA DDG Hua Liu, focuses on enhancing nuclear technology cooperation in food, health, climate, and energy. 

Key Areas of the 2026–2031 CPF:

  • Food and Agriculture: Enhancing food security using nuclear science.
  • Human Health and Nutrition: Strengthening medical services, including cancer treatment.
  • Climate Change and Water Management: Addressing environmental challenges.
  • Nuclear Power: Expanding nuclear energy capacity.
  • Radiation and Nuclear Safety: Ensuring safety standards. 

Key Details:

  • Duration: Five years (2026–2031), spanning three technical cooperation cycles.
  • Purpose: To align IAEA support with Pakistan's national development goals and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Context: Strengthens a partnership active since 1957.
