Muhammad Tahir, a senior officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), was appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan on September 8, 2025.
A Grade-21 officer, he replaced Moazzam Jah Ansari following the federal government's approval. Before this appointment, Tahir was serving in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as the Additional IG for the Elite Force.

Counter-Terrorism Initiatives: In early 2026, he emphasized equipping the Balochistan Police with modern technology and specialized training to combat terrorism.
Operational Campaigns: He launched a high-profile month-long campaign (January 26 – February 24, 2026) specifically targeting declared criminals across the province.
Infrastructure & Equipment: In February 2026, he announced that Quetta police would be provided with bulletproof vehicles and that the Khuzdar Levies Training Centre would be converted into a specialized Police Training Centre.
