As of August 29, 2025, Thailand's Constitutional Court permanently removed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office following her earlier suspension on July 1, 2025. The court found her guilty of violating ethical standards regarding a leaked phone call with Cambodia’s former leader, Hun Sen, which criticized a Thai commander during border tensions.

Key Details of the Ruling:

  • Removal: The 6-3 court ruling on Aug 29, 2025, immediately terminated her position and cabinet.
  • Reason: She was found in breach of constitutional ethical standards for discussing sensitive military matters with a foreign leader, acting against national interests.
  • Aftermath: Deputy PM Phumtham Wechayachai took over as interim leader.
  • Context: Paetongtarn is the fifth prime minister stripped of office by Thai courts since 2008.

As of March 10, 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul is listed as the Prime Minister of Thailand.
