The Adidas Trionda was officially unveiled on October 2, 2025, as the match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The design is quite a departure from previous years, and here are the key highlights of what makes it unique:
The Name: "Trionda" combines the English prefix tri- (three) and the Spanish word onda (wave). This translates to "Triple Wave," celebrating the three host nations: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Iconography: The ball features a red, green, and blue color scheme. It is adorned with a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle’s head for Mexico, and a five-pointed star for the U.S.
Panel Construction: It uses a brand-new four-panel construction, which is the fewest panels ever used for a World Cup ball. These panels are thermally bonded and designed with deep seams to improve flight stability.
Connected Ball Tech: Much like the Al Rihla used in 2022, the Trionda features a 500Hz motion sensor (IMU chip).
VAR Integration: This chip provides real-time data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, helping officials make highly accurate decisions regarding offsides and ball touches.
Interestingly, the Trionda continues a long-standing tradition of excellence from the region; it is manufactured in Sialkot, Pakistan, by Forward Sports, the same company responsible for producing several previous World Cup match balls.
